Federal Grants Support Upward Bound Programs
The U.S. Department of Education has awarded two grants totaling $72,000 to TRIO Upward Bound and Upward Bound Math and Science programs at MCC to provide hands-on career-exploration opportunities to Rochester city high school students in summer 2019. The goal is to boost students' interest in science, technology, engineering and math (STEM) fields.
Currently, the number of U.S. jobs requiring STEM expertise is growing at a rate that exceeds current workforce capacity.
Through experiential learning led by MCC faculty/staff in laboratory and field research settings, up to 80 participants will gain an introduction to careers across 13 disciplines and learn what kind of college education and training they need.
