Student Artwork featured in Armenian Genocide Exhibit

An art exhibition commemorating the 100th anniversary of the beginning of the Armenian Genocide will be held Thursday, April 16, at 12:30 p.m., on the fourth floor of the LeRoy V. Good Library.

Open to the MCC community, the exhibition will commence near the
Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Center (2-440), which is part of the Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project. After the initial opening, the exhibition will be moved to the second floor of the LeRoy V. Good Library.

The exhibition features student works created as part of Professor Franzie Weldgen’s ART 110 (Comics and Sequential Art) and ART 204 (Drawing II) courses. Composed and executed in various media, the thirteen works examine aspects of the Armenian Genocide, which began in April of 1915 during the First World War and continued until 1923. In the area of the former Ottoman Empire (present-day Turkey), various Turkish officials and citizens perpetrated what later became acknowledged as the first genocide of the 20th century. Directed by leaders of the Turkish government, an estimated 1.5 million Armenians were murdered by firing squad, bayoneting, bludgeoning, and starvation.
