Article Highlights MCC Libraries' Efforts in Serving Students' Needs

Katie Ghidiu, director of Library Services at MCC, is quoted in The Chronicle of Higher Education article on "How Libraries Can Meet the Extracurricular Needs of Community College Students." The article coincides with the release of a report, Student Needs Are Academic Needs, revealing outcomes of a student survey conducted at MCC and six other U.S. community colleges in 2018 to determine how campus libraries can best serve students' academic and personal needs.

The report gleans important insights on the role of libraries: Students most often view the library not only as an informational and academic resource or a place to study, but also as a resource for community-oriented services and outreach. Based on the needs expressed by our students in the survey, MCC Libraries will establish family-friendly study rooms on both campuses and have age-appropriate Kid Kits available to children. These spaces are designated for student parents who need a quiet place to study with their children.

The survey and pilot programs are components of the national Community College Libraries and Academic Support for Student Success project.
