Democracy Days at MCC!

On March 6th at DCC and March 9th at Brighton, please join your colleagues and your students to celebrate “Democracy Days” by sharing your voice about what democracy and civic engagement means to you. Students, faculty, and staff are invited to briefly share their perspective, on video and in writing, about what it means to be an engaged citizen.

How would you answer the question “What does democracy look like?”

Please encourage students to participate in this celebration by announcing this event in class and by discussing the many issues that surround such issues as democracy and civic engagement.

Democracy Days will take place on March 6th between  11:00 am – 2:00 pm in the 4th floor atrium of DCC and on March 9th between 10:00 am – 1:00 pm in the Flynn Campus Center atrium at Brighton.

The Democracy Commitment (TDC) is a national initiative aimed at increasing the capacity of community colleges to engage students in civic learning and democratic practice. Through our involvement in TDC, Monroe Community College will work to prepare students to be informed, active, and mobilized citizens in their communities, states, and nation.

On November 4, 2011 College Presidents and Chancellors from across the nation gathered in New York City to demonstrate their support of and commitment to this important national project. As a signatory member of The Democracy Commitment, MCC is committed to democracy and civic education, and we appreciate your support in encouraging students to participate in this initiative.
