Gold Star Gala Raises $68,449 for Scholarships, Grants

The Monroe Community College Foundation’s 10th annual Gold Star Gala, An Evening at the Starlight Social Club presented by M&T Bank, raised $68,449 to support scholarships and faculty innovation grants at Monroe Community College. Due to the generosity of the 220 guests—including alumni, community leaders, philanthropists, faculty/staff and student leaders—net proceeds from the event increased by 22 percent over last year!

Held at the Country Club of Rochester on May 17, the gala transported guests to 1940s Havana, complete with Cuban-inspired cuisine, live music, dance performances and chocolate cigars. Prompted by auctioneer Howie Jacobson, guests bid on “experience packages”—often combining one-of-a-kind luxury items, travel and cuisine—and named scholarships. The evening culminated with the “Hot Havana Nights Show,” performed by Nik and the Nice Guys.

The MCC Foundation will host its 24th annual Scholarship Open golf tournament at Monroe Golf Club on July 14. Proceeds support student scholarships and faculty grants at MCC. For foursome reservations or more information, please call Renee St. Louis at x1505.
