Magnificent Seven Tips for Fighting Spam!

As we continue our series of articles on that nuisance called “spam,” read on for seven wonderful tips about things that you should never do!

According to James Bond, you should “Never say never again” – however, at ETS we know that you should “Always say never” in the following situations:

Never select the option on web browsers for storing or retaining user name and password.
Never disclose personal, financial, or credit card information to little-known or suspect web sites.
Never use a computer or a device that cannot be fully trusted.  You don’t know where it has been!
Never use public or Internet cafe computers to access online financial services accounts or perform financial transactions.

Never pay attention to virus warnings or even forward them unless you subscribe to a serious virus newsletter.  They are most likely a hoax.  The first thing that is a give away is a request to “send this to everyone you know” or some variation of that statement.

Never obtain software from "warez" sites or peer-to-peer programs like Kazaa. Get it from known, trusted sources only.  Remember nothing is really free and if it sounds too good to be true, it probably is!

Never use the "Unsubscribe" feature of spam e-mails or reply to spam mails because by doing so, you confirm the validity of your email address and the spammer can keep sending you unsolicited email.

Stay tuned for the final article in this series, which will focus on ETS’s future plans for the ongoing fight against spam!
