Financial Aid Quick Tip: How does work-study work?

The Federal Work-Study (FWS) Program provides jobs for matriculated undergraduate students with financial need, allowing them to earn money to help pay educational expenses. When possible, the program encourages community service work and work related to the student’s course of study.

Students interested in the program, submit a completed application to our office.  Once determined eligible, the student is given an award amount and sent a hiring packet and instructions.  The student finds a job on campus and the employer will pay the student from the money awarded.

Working on campus is a great option for students who intend to work anyway.  These jobs offer more flexibility with the student’s class schedule.  Students save time and money on travel since they generally walk to their employment site.  And the program allows an excellent opportunity for students to work closely with college faculty and staff.  Encourage your students to at least explore the option of work-study.
