SUNY Read Aloud Partnership

I am happy to tell you that SUNY recently agreed to partner with Read Aloud 15 Minutes Program on a system-wide basis. Read Aloud is an organization that focuses on literacy  involvement with young children (up to 2nd grade) in an effort to increase the time children spend reading. The national Read Aloud campaign has been proven to be an effective grassroots movement and we believe SUNY can play an important role in its future, with your help! Each SUNY campus will create an initiative that promotes Read Aloud 15 Minutes.

As a part of MCC’s Read Aloud effort, and in partnership with the MCC Library and Department of Education, the Richard M. Guon Child Care Center has graciously offered up several of their classrooms for volunteers to visit and  read aloud for half an hour.  We are looking for faculty and staff to serve as a volunteer reader to children at the Child Care Center on of April 8th between the hours of 10:00am and 1:00pm. Volunteer readers are welcome to read a book of their choosing or can select from a set aside collection in the library. If you’re interested in being a volunteer reader, please contact Mark McBride in the Library at "mailto:mmcbride17@monroecc.edu" as soon as possible or by Monday, March 31st.
