MCC Alumnus Jerome Flood Wins World's Largest Drum Competition

He was two-years-old when he got his first drum set. Jerome Flood II has always wanted to drum. Long before he graduated from Gates-Chili or MCC, before he transferred to the Atlanta Institute of Music, he was sitting in a church pew with two pencils drumming on his little knees.

When his high school teachers used to ask him about his future plans, Jerome was adamant about pursuing his passion for drums. They’d say, “Okay, that’s fine but what’s Plan B?” According to Jerome, that wasn’t even a consideration. “There could never be a Plan B. Ever. Plan B? This was it. This was what I’ve always loved to do.”

Jerome, who graduated from MCC in 2007 with an associate’s degree in Music Performance, was recently named “America’s Top Undiscovered Drummer”  in the Guitar Center’s 20th Annual Drum-off championship held at the Henry Ford Theater in Los Angeles. He was chosen by a panel of today’s most influential drummers including Taylor Hawkins of the Foofighters, Danny Carey of Tool, Trevor Lawrence Jr. of Snoop Doop/Dr.Dre and Alan White of Yes.
