You Can't Read That! -- Banned Books Under Discusssion Tomorrow

This week is Banned Books Week! In order to honor this important event, the Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) will be hosting a discussion panel tomorrow, September 25, 12:00 pm to 12:50 pm. MCC Provost and Vice President of Academic Affairs Michael McDonough and Professor Charlie Clarke will be speaking on “You Can’t Read That!: Banned Books Under Discussion.” The event will be located on the 4th floor of the library, outside of Room 2-452.

Please join us for what will certainly be a very interesting and entertaining event as we explore the history and implications of censorship within America’s classrooms and libraries. Which books are challenged and why? Is the issue present in higher education? How does it affect us as students and public educators?

According to the American Library Association, “While books have been and continue to be banned, part of the Banned Books Week celebration is the fact that, in a majority of cases, the books have remained available. This happens only thanks to the efforts of librarians, teachers, students, and community members who stand up and speak out for the freedom to read.” Please stand up and speak out for freedom with us!
