MCC women second, men third at swim nationals


The MCC women's team placed second at the NJCAA Swimming and Diving championships at Erie Community College over the weekend. The Tribunes finished behind only Indian River CC, which won its 25th straight national title.

It was a second runner-up finish for the MCC women's team, which accumulated 497.5 points. The Tribunes beat out Lincoln College (Ill.), which finished third with 454 points.

The MCC men also fared well, finishing third with 356 points.  Indian River won its 33rd straight men's championship, while Lincoln College came in second.

Kazuma Uda (Fukuoka, Japan/Sagagakuen) highlighted the men's finish with a national title in the 200-yard breaststroke.  The sophomore finished in a time of 2:08.88.  He also placed second in the 200 and 400 IMs.

On the women's side, consistency and depth were the names of the game.  The Lady Tribunes had 13 top-5 finishes and a number of other top-10's.  The highest finish belonged to sophomore Amy Buisman (Rochester, NY/Penfield) who took second in the 400 IM in 5:06.48.

The MCC men totaled 11 top-5's highlighted by Uda's first-place finish in the 200 breaststroke.  The others were:

The MCC coaching staff of Dan Dubois, Tim Dubois, and Scott Josephson earned NJCAA National Women's Coach of the Year honors.
