Accolades Keep Coming for MCC's Downtown Campus

MCC's Downtown Campus construction project continues to receive accolades. On April 12, the New York state chapter of the American Public Works Association honored the campus with its Project of the Year Award in the Large Structures category (structures greater than $75 million) in recognition of excellent teamwork and commitment to innovation.

The Downtown Campus project has also been selected to compete at the national level in the same category.

On a national level, the campus recently received recognition for its architectural and interior design from Learning By Design magazine, a highly regarded source for education design innovation and excellence. The campus is featured in the magazine's spring 2018 edition, which showcases the nation's most engaging and enriching learning environments--and the firms and design teams that create them.

A jury of architects, designers, academics and education practitioners across the U.S. looks for in each project unique and/or new concepts being implemented to improve educational facility building design. MCC was scored on six measures: innovation, community need, interior design, sustainability, functional design, and 21st-century learning. The jury comments about MCC's Downtown Campus project included:

"I appreciate the select palette of interior design materials and use of natural wood and exposed CIP concrete. The living walls and large freshwater aquariums are also nice to complement the other more direct visual connections to the natural environment -- good for creating restorative learning environments."
