Rochester Careers in Construction Day

Faculty and staff from the departments of Engineering Technology, Applied Technologies, and Admissions represented MCC at the annual Rochester Careers in Construction Event which took place Wednesday, October 19th at the Monroe County Fleet facility on Paul Road.

Interactive displays are the highlight of this well-attended annual event.  Local construction companies, unions, government employers, and teaching/training organizations bring their most exciting displays and activities in an attempt to attract young people to careers related to construction.  Students can build model bridges, solder pipes, weld, wire electrical circuits, operate heavy equipment, and much more.

Hundreds of high schools students from as far away as Pembrook, NY attended the event.  Students from Alfred Technical College acted as tour guides.   MCC students from the HVAC program (Applied Technologies) participated in the event and taught the high school students how to use infrared thermometers, fiberoptic inspection lights and electronic freon leak detectors.
