Submit a Request for Supplemental Instruction

Learning Support Systems is currently seeking requests from faculty for Supplemental Instruction in courses across disciplines. We encourage all submissions; however, please note, courses with high enrollment/low success rates and those identified as “historically difficult” will be given first priority. To make a request, please complete a Faculty Reference /Request

If you wish to endorse students without making a request, please complete a Faculty Reference /Request for each student you wish to recommend!

Please recommend a student who you feel would be ideal to work with you or faculty in other courses.  If you are unable to add a recommendation at this time, we will include you to the list of courses we are looking to secure SI Leaders to support.

SI Leader Qualifications: • Be a student enrolled in a course at Monroe Community College or a student who has previously taken the targeted course at Monroe Community College • Maintain an overall GPA of a 3.0 or higher • Have completed the SI course with an B+ or better in a previous semester • Possess excellent interpersonal communication skills • Have a working knowledge of campus resources for academic success • Receive a recommendation from the faculty member the SI Leader will support (This recommendation is verified by the information you include when completing the "Supplemental Instruction Faculty Request Form.")

Supplemental Instruction (SI) Overview:  Learning Support Systems employs students to serve as Supplemental Instruction (SI) Leaders each fall, spring, and summer semester. The Supplemental Instruction program targets traditionally difficult courses based on a high percentage of dropouts, withdrawals and incompletes—and final course grades that are a D or an F (DWFI) for all eligible sections of a particular course. SI Leaders serve as model students and facilitate SI sessions. SI sessions cover course content, engage participants in activities and group work, and integrate active learning skills. SI sessions are open to all students, and attendance is not mandatory. For additional information about SI, please review the additional attachment: "Overview of Supplemental Instruction."

Next Steps:

Please communicate with all students included on your list of recommendations to let them know that you have endorsed them for this opportunity. We will reach out to students to initiate the vetting process and review qualifications.
