Knitting Workshop

Knitting Workshop

The MCC Wellness Council/Emotional Wellness Committee is offering a Knitting Workshop beginning on Wednesday, October 5, 2016 from 12-1 pm in the PAC Center Conference Room, 10-182.

Did you know that knitting can improve both your mind and body? A study which was published in the February 2013 issue of the British Journal of Occupational Therapy, revealed that the majority of knitters reported a significant relationship between knitting frequency and feeling calm and happy. Respondents who knit the most often said that knitting positively affected their cognitive functioning, helping them to sort through problems or think more easily. The rhythmic repetitive movements seem to put us in the present moment, distracting us from mulling over the past or fearing the future. The relaxation response is known to bring down blood pressure, heart rate and help to prevent stress related illnesses.

This workshop is designed for anyone, knitters of any skill level are welcome! First time knitters will be instructed by professional knitter, Betsy Ripton on the basics of knitting. The knitting group will meet on Wednesdays from 12-1 throughout the fall 2016 semester. Knitters will have the opportunity to pick a small project they would like to knit and if they choose, can donate the finished project to a local charity.  Please bring with you a set of knitting needles and yarn. Check out The Yarne Source at 7 Schoen Place, in Pittsford, if you need assistance with the purchasing of needles and yarn at https://www.yarnesource.com/

So come join us this week for the first instructional session. Interested employees will need to bring their own knitting needles as well as yarn.

Hope to see you there!
