MCC Signs Historic Agreement with Morgan State University

MCC recently signed a dual admission agreement with Morgan State University (Baltimore). The agreement marks two firsts for MCC: its first agreement with a historically black university and its first with an institution outside of New York state!

“Monroe Community College is often the first stop on a student’s lifelong educational journey,” said MCC President R. Thomas Flynn. “Because the majority of MCC students plan to earn advanced degrees, the college aggressively seeks to create dual admission opportunities and transfer relationships with leading colleges and universities. Our agreement with Morgan State University creates exciting possibilities for students who want to continue their studies at one of the nation’s top 12 historically black colleges and universities,” he said.

“The articulation agreement with Monroe Community College is one the university takes great pride in,” says Dr. Earl S. Richardson, president of Morgan State University. “This initiative continues our efforts to be at the forefront of academic excellence.”

Founded in 1867, Morgan State University offers more than 60 academic programs leading to bachelor’s degrees as well as programs at the master’s and doctoral levels. Designated as Maryland’s Public Urban University by its state legislature, the university annually enrolls approximately 6,000 students. It is one of the leading institutions nationally in the number of applications received from African-American high school graduates. Morgan's agreement with MCC marks its first such agreement with a New York state college.

The dual admission agreement includes the following academic programs: Business Administration, Communication and Media Arts, Computer Information Systems, Computer Science, Engineering Science, Fine Arts, Health Studies, and Liberal Arts and Sciences.

While Morgan is a historically black institution, it serves students of all racial and ethnic backgrounds. In Fall 2006, minorities (defined as African American, Latino and Native/American Indian) comprised 92.6 percent of Morgan’s student population. Minorities comprise 26 percent of MCC’s student population.

Thanks to representatives of MCC’s Career Center and Admissions Office for helping MCC once again make history!
