MCC Public Safety Partners with Richard Guon Child Care Center for College for Kids Program

MCC Public Safety was proud to once again partner with the Richard Guon Child Care Center to participate in this summer’s MCC College for Kids program. Building upon a program designed and implemented in 2008, MCC Public Safety has created and administered a number of youth specific safety and mentoring programs for camp attendees, as well as provide opportunities to interact with officers from the MCC Public Safety and Rochester Police Departments. This summer’s programs included the following:

* Meet, Greet and Photo Shoot opportunity with MCC Public Safety patrol staff and vehicle
* K-9 Dog (“Ciao”) visit courtesy of the Rochester Police Department and Sergeant Greg Kelly
* Junior Crime Scene Investigations class with Public Safety Officer Chuck DiSalvo of MCC Public Safety

The new Junior Crime Scene Investigations class was a hit. The kids learned how to dust for fingerprints, collect fiber, trace evidence, and take photographs in an effort to identify the culprit who stole a fellow classmate's Oreo cookies. The culprit was identified and the Oreo cookies were returned to their rightful owner.

MCC Public Safety was honored to participate in this year’s College for Kids Program. As an integral part of our college community, the Public Safety Department takes great pride in building positive, lon- term relationships with our future students taking part in the College for Kids Program. In addition, MCC Public Safety would like to thank the Richard Guon Child Care Center, the Rochester Police Department, and the National Crime Prevention Council for their assistance in providing support and materials for this year’s MCC Public Safety/MCC College for Kids program.
