Bridgette Yaxley gets Published in Oak Orchard Review

The Oak Orchard Review has selected a story English/Philosophy Department adjunct, Bridgette Yaxley wrote, called "Mudbugs, Muskmellon, & Mayhem" to feature in the inaugural edition of their magazine this October 2012 and has requested that she conduct a reading of the piece at a party to officially launch their publication. The event will be held at The Shirt Factory Cafe in Medina, N.Y., at 7pm, on October 19th. (115 West Center Street, Medina NY 14103)

The story is a coming of age piece that would qualify in the young adult literature genre about two teenagers who venture off on a journey down a back country road in Orleans County one hot summer night finding more than what they bargained for. The theme of this story demonstrates how peer pressure and ensuing exploration can easily reign in an environment where adolescents are often left finding ways to creatively pass the time as a result of their socioeconomic circumstances. The piece contains regionalistic dialogue and rich geographical description.
