Todd Oldham Speaks at the Aspen Labor Market Outcomes Forum in Washington, DC

On July 16, The Aspen Institute, an educational and policy studies organization, conducted the Aspen Labor Market Outcomes Forum for higher education professionals. The objective of the Forum was to raise awareness of the tremendous amount of labor market outcomes data becoming available over 2012 and share best practices for using the data to improve student success, policy making and college administration.

Todd Oldham, Vice President of Economic Development and Innovative Workforce Services, spoke at the Forum about how MCC is using regional labor market data to promote in-demand middle-skill occupations and address shortages in the education-to-workforce pipeline. The primary focus of Todd’s discussion was MCC’s effort integrating labor market data through MCC’s Career Coach into a career-focused curriculum for Junior Achievement of Rochester and an upcoming CTE Professions Awareness course.

MCC Career Coach provides up-to-date local employment data, such as current and projected job openings, estimated earnings, and occupations that require similar skills and knowledge, as well as specific MCC educational programs that will prepare an individual for a given occupation. It provides users with a clear connection between a particular program of study and tangible opportunities in the job market. Since its launch in February, MCC Career Coach has received more than 42,000 visits.

Todd also touched on MCC’s partnership with community-based organizations to promote a greater awareness of local workforce needs and career opportunities.
