Jim Coffey Wins Regional Leadership Award for 292-BABY Efforts

Congratulations to Jim Coffey (VaPA/292-BABY) for receiving the 2007 National Association for Family Child Care’s (NAFCC) Region II Leadership Award!  (NAFCC Region II is one of eight regions nationally. It comprises New York and New Jersey.)

Coffey was recognized for using the 292-BABYcommunication network to help end the isolation many family providers experience. This was accomplished by:

· Producing 15 television shows on topics of interest to family providers, from legal issues to safety in homes to managing difficult behavior in children.
· Providing family providers an hour per week on 292-BABY Television to air provider-specific programming (8:00 - 9:00 PM Fridays)
· Including an interactive “forum” especially for family providers within the 292-BABY Web site ("https://www.292baby.org/")
· Making the 292-BABY (292-2229) phone number available as a resource available while providers care for children.  This is especially valuable to those who dispense medication and may need guidance. Callers to "292-BABY" can talk free to a pediatric nurse about any non-emergency issue regarding any pre-school aged child.

NAFCC is dedicated to strengthening and advocating for the family child care profession by promoting high quality, professional early care and education and strengthening the the communities where providers live and work.  NAFCC collaborates with local, state and national organizations that contribute to the family child care field in order to increase awareness and provide the quality of family child care.
