Reminder: Sectarian Alliances: Sunnis, Shiites, and the Countries of the Middle East Lecture Monday

The Leroy V. Good Library (Brighton campus) will be hosting a lecture Monday, March 10, 12:00 pm to 1:00 pm. Dr. Salahuddin Malik, Professor of History at SUNY Brockport, will be speaking on “Sectarian Alliances: Sunnis, Shiites, and the Countries of the Middle East.” The lecture will be held on the fourth floor of the library, outside of room 2-452.

Dr. Malik has a Ph.D. from McGill University, Montreal, and an MA and BA from the University of the Panjab, Pakistan. He is an expert in Middle Eastern history, the history of Islam, and the history of South Asia.

Dr. Malik’s lecture will explain the differences between the Sunnis and Shiites and how those differences affect the broader picture of Middle Eastern politics. The program will also explore the function of sectarian violence in the Middle East, explaining the roles of specific countries, and how the current violence in Iraq could lead to regional warfare along sectarian lines.

Please join us for this timely lecture, which promises to be not only informative but fascinating.
