The Sixth Act Presents "Medicine Show: A Living Newspaper Event" this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday!

The Sixth Act is pleased to remind the entire MCC community that Medicine Show: A Living Newspaper Event will take place this Thursday, Friday, and Saturday, March 10-12, at 7:30 p.m., in the North Atrium at MCC. The event is free and open to the public, and parking will be available in Lot F.

The staged reading of the 1939 living-newspaper play Medicine Show, which looks at the health-care crisis in our country in the 1930s, will be followed by a panel/audience discussion about the relevance of this play and these issues today. We also have pre-event packets available that include two short articles defining and contextualizing living-newspaper plays, a series of political cartoons focusing on health care over the past one-hundred years, a New York Times review of the original production, and an excerpt of the script, if you’re interested.

We’re hoping to gather as many community members, faculty members, and students as possible to participate in this timely dialogue about both the historic and contemporary role that art, argument, and propaganda might play in the messy chaos of U.S. health-care coverage. Please join us!
