4 Students Named to Phi Theta Kappa Academic Team

Four students have been named to the prestigious 2008 All-New York Academic Team for Phi Theta Kappa International Honor Society.

Leah Hadden and Katsiaryna Pleshankova, students on the Brighton Campus, and Rosemary Rivera and Trelawney McKnight, who take classes at Damon City Campus, will be honored during an awards luncheon on April 7. Hadden, who qualified for the first team, will receive a medallion and two years of free tuition to the State University of New York College or university of her choice; Pleshankova and Rivera, who made the second team, and McKnight, who made the third team, will receive certificates and medallions for their achievements.

To qualify for the team, students must possess a grade point average of 3.25 or higher and have fulfilled a community service component. The MCC students selected to the team are all members of Alpha Theta Iota, MCC’s chapter of Phi Theta Kappa, international honor society for the nation’s two-year colleges. The award is presented on behalf of the New York Community College Trustees, Association of Presidents of Public Community Colleges and Faculty Council of Community Colleges.
