Volunteers Make Alumni Week and Homecoming a Success

The MCC Foundation thanks the members of the Alumni Week and Homecoming 2012 Planning Committee for their outstanding effort to reconnect alumni, students and friends to MCC.  We are proud of the success of the 14 events held between September 22 and October 13 and the partnerships formed within the college community to make these events possible.

Our Homecoming celebration began with the Alumni Classic Golf Tournament and Dinner chaired by Joe Marchese held at Mill Creek Golf Club raising $3,000 for the Faculty Grants Program.  Golfers and dinner guests enjoyed a terrific day of golf and celebrated the 45th anniversary of Joe’s teaching career at MCC.

SEGA hosted a Damon City Campus celebration, complete with birthday cake and ice cream, setting the tone for celebrating MCC’s 50th birthday.  Then, leading into Homecoming weekend, the Fall Festival hosted by First Year Experience, the Homecoming Carnival hosted by CAB and the Headline Comedy Show hosted by Housing and Residence Life provided a day filled with fun, rides, good food, music and laughter.  Spirit Day followed with the annual Faculty vs. Students Basketball Game.  Faculty, staff and students wearing black and gold cheered on their favorite team from the sidelines.   In the evening, a banquet was held on campus honoring David Smith ’75, Jefferson Dargout ’02, Doug Brown ’67, and Erynn (Clapp) Banks ’04, as they were inducted into the MCC Sports Hall of Fame.

Homecoming Day was filled with fun events, starting with the 6th Annual 5K Walk/Run.  MCC faculty, staff, alumni and community members raised over $6,000 for student scholarships!  Special thanks to Courtney Belluccio ’02, Jodi Oriel ’93, Mary Nolan, Kimberley Willis ’91, Dawn Quatro ’91 and Donna Burke, for forming teams, encouraging sponsorship and lending their leadership support to make this our most successful race yet!  Congratulations to our 5K top finishers:   Dave Tannascoli, Nicole Zoyhofski, Kevin Sheehan, Dave Ghidiu and Chris Liess.  Award winners were:  Kimberley Willis (highest fundraiser), 50 for MCC (highest funds raised by a team) and ETS Tech Trekkies (best team spirit).  A complete listing of teams and the race results will be posted on our website.  Our thanks go out to all the individual and team participants and the many volunteers who helped make this event a success.  The 5K Walk/Run was followed by MCC Tribunes games and tailgate party sponsored by Canandaigua National Bank.

Alumni took advantage of an exceptional opportunity to learn cooking and wine pairing techniques from Michelle Bartell (Hospitality), Gerry Brinkman (Hospitality) and Dave Boni (Transitional Studies).  Alumni from the Classes of the ’60s held their annual gathering at Pomodoro Restaurant.  An alumni art exhibition in the Forum was made possible courtesy of Kathy Farrell and MCC’s Visual and Performing Arts department.  The exhibit will remain throughout the month of October.
