Technology Alert: Microsoft 365 - Spam/Junk Email & Login update

As Technology Services prepares to migrate the College’s email to Exchange Online/Microsoft 365, there are changes being made that affect how spam emails are filtered. After Friday January 14, suspicious messages will no longer be delivered to the Junk Box at https://spam.monroecc.edu and spam.monroecc.edu should no longer be used. Junk/spam filtering will still occur within Outlook and everyone should regularly review their Junk email folder to ensure they are not missing expected emails.

How to set junk mail filters:

  • Users can configure junk e-mail options within Microsoft Outlook by right-clicking on messages in their Inbox and selecting Junk -> Junk E-mail Options.
  • General options can be configured on the Options tab, and whitelist and blacklist entries can be made for individual email addresses or domains by using the Safe Senders and Blocked Senders tabs.
  • Junk e-mail options can also be configured within Outlook Web App (https://mymail.monroecc.edu) by logging in, clicking the “gear” icon in the upper right corner, selecting Options and clicking the “block or allow” menu on the left, then adding or removing safe recipients and blocked senders.
  • Employees who receive a message to switch to Cached Exchange Mode should contact the Employee Technology Support Center at 585-292-8324, Option 3, M-F 8:45am-4:45pm for assistance.

Login changes:

Students and staff who log into the Microsoft 365 platform will also soon notice a change in the authentication process as a result of this ongoing work, and may no longer be prompted to select “work or school account” and be directed through our MCC-branded single sign-on system. Login pages for this service will have the default Microsoft branding for entering your MCC Network Account and password.

Stay tuned for more updates regarding this mailbox migration to Exchange Online/Microsoft 365 in the coming months.
