Pencils and Paper: Tools for Learning Supply Drive

The MCC Support Staff Planning Council and the MCC Chapter of the American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) are working together to support the Pencils and Paper: Tools for Learning effort. This is a Jewish Family Service (JFS) program that invites teachers in low-income schools to shop for school supplies for their students at no cost at their store and warehouse located at Water Tower Park on Jay Street.

Remember what it was like as a child to get all new supplies for the first day of school? Can you think back to the excitement of having bright, unbroken crayons, new colored folders and new pencils to sharpen? Since Rochester has the second-highest child poverty rate among U.S. cities with a population of 200,000 or more, many students in our community do not know the joy of new supplies for school. Let's help those in need in our community feel the same excitement about school by providing donated supplies to help students all year.

Please join your colleagues in helping to strengthen our community by supplying basic learning tools to local children who need school supplies but can't afford them.

The supplies teachers ask for the most includes, but is not limited to:

  • Construction paper (50 sheet assorted)
  • Copy paper (ream)
  • Crayons (24-pack)
  • #2 pencils and pens
  • Hand sanitizer (8 oz.)
  • Markers and dry erase markers
  • Glue squeeze bottles (8 oz.)
  • Paper clips and binder clips
  • Band aid boxes (100 count)
  • Backpacks

From September 4 to September 13, 2019, you can find donation boxes at the following locations:

  • Brighton Campus, Library, Building 6, Room 301
  • Brighton Campus, Campus Events, Building 3, Room 120
  • Brighton Campus, Public Safety 21-140
  • Downtown Campus, Student Engagement Center, Room 310
  • Downtown Campus 1st Floor Main Entrance

Please find attached flyer for posting in your office area.

We appreciate your support of this important mission.
