A Sixth Act Event

On Thursday, October 20, from 4-5:30 p.m., The Sixth Act is hosting “Contemporary Women Playwrights with an Emphasis on Paula Vogel: An Academic Workshop” in the Black Box in Building 4. All are welcome to attend this event. Light refreshments will be served.

Our primary goals for this workshop are (1) for our audience to consider the term “women playwright,” itself—how useful/important is distinguishing a playwright as a “woman”? why is this worth talking about? when is this distinction irrelevant or even dangerous?, (2) for our audience to become more knowledgeable about five outstanding contemporary American women playwrights and their work, and (3) for our audience to become more knowledgeable about the Pulitzer-prize winning playwright Paula Vogel, in particular, as she will be visiting MCC in March.

Please note that we will have a curriculum packet available for your use by around October 1. This packet will include key information about the debate surrounding identifying playwrights as “women” in this country. It also will have excerpts and reviews of the six playwrights to be featured at the workshop: Marsha Norma, Maria Irene Fornes, Suzan Lori-Parks, Lynn Nottage, Sarah Ruhl, and of course Paula Vogel. Please contact Jeffery Jones at "

Finally, please don’t hesitate to direct any questions to me at
