DCC Hosts Patriotic Week

A voter registration drive and political discussions are among the events MCC's Damon City Campus is hosting in celebration of Patriotic Week from Monday, March 15 through Friday, March 19.

**On Monday, March 15 at noon, keynote speaker Toni Phillips, Upstate New York Voter Registration officer with the Puerto Rican Federal Affairs Administration, will talk about the importance of voting. Her talk will be followed by speeches and a question-answer session with county Democratic Chairwoman Molly Clifford and Republican Chairman Stephen J. Minarik III.

**A debate among four MCC professors will be held at noon Wednesday, March 17, to examine “Iraq: Where Are We Now,” a look at the United States’ involvement in Iraq. Panelists will reflect on the U.S.’s position at the start of the war a year ago and how the situation has changed since Saddam Hussein’s capture.

Professors on the panel are:

V. Sumati Devadutt, Sociology, who has studied global and international affairs since 1973, formulated a globalization course she now teaches at MCC. She is a former member of the local United Nations organization.

Laurence Feasel, Law and Criminal Justice, a retired U.S. Army colonel and New York state certified police master instructor, currently co-teaches a unique course on the USA Patriot Act that was instituted after the 9/11/2001 disaster.

Henry P. French Jr., History/Political Science, is a retired Army master sergeant who served in Korea and teaches a course on terrorism in Washington, DC. He has taught at MCC for 40 years.

Thomas Proietti, Visual and Performing Arts, a media analyst with expertise in international education, teaches an overseas communication course in London. He is a past recipient of MCC’s Dr. Wesley T. Hanson Award for Excellence in Teaching.

In addition to sign-up tables during the events, SEGA will conduct voter registration drives on Tuesday and Thursday. All events will be held in the fourth floor lounge on the Damon City Campus at 228 East Main St. in Rochester.

The event was coordinated by student Nicole Thompson and is sponsored by the Student Events and Governance Association (SEGA).
