33 Attend AAWCC's Women's History Month Bus Tour!

On Saturday March 22nd, a group of 33 faculty, staff, friends, sisters, mothers, fathers, daughters, sons, nieces and granddaughters attended the Women’s History Month Bus Tour to Seneca Falls NY.  The group enjoyed a guided tour of the Women’s Rights National Historic Park, Wesleyan Chapel (site of the first Women’s Right’s Convention in 1848), and The National Women’s Hall of Fame.  Lunch and a guest speaker was provided at the Historic (and reportedly haunted) Gould Hotel. The tour concluded in Waterloo at The M’Clintock house where the Declaration of Sentiments was written. This was a special opportunity for MCC as the home is normally closed at this time of year.

At the close of the day, a journal was circulated among the travelers capturing the following thoughts:

“I sometimes forget what the women of previous generations endured and sacrificed for those who came later.”  -Carol Wilkinson

“I didn’t know how oppressed the women were prior to 1848, when the Declaration of Sentiments was written.  The day was educational and enjoyable.”  -Warren Eng

“This tour showcased five strong women and many unknown women (and men) who fought for the rights of all women.  Although we have come so far there is more to do ……I was moved by these women who put themselves at risk and did not allow fear to hold them back.”  -Susan Noonan

AAWCC would like to thank our generous sponsors who made this trip possible: The American Association of Women in Community Colleges (AAWCC) MCC Chapter, The MCC Diversity Council, Pete Otero and Janet Glocker.

Together we are changing women’s lives through education, service and leadership development- thank you!
