Deadline Approaching to RSVP for Human Rights Workshop!

MCC's Holocaust, Genocide, and Human Rights Project invites you to participate in its annual faculty human rights workshop. Designed to help faculty and staff incorporate human rights-based content into courses and work with students across the college, this experience offers a rich professional experience for attendees. This year's focus will be on the 25th anniversary of the Rwandan genocide.

Join us as Kristin Doughty, Associate Professor of Anthropology at the University of Rochester and author of Remediation in Rwanda: Grassroots Legal Forums, presents on her 18 months of ethnographic research with grassroots legal forums in Rwanda. Additionally, Jacqueline Murekatete, an internationally recognized genocide survivor and human rights activist, will share her testimony. Born in Rwanda, Jacqueline was nine years old when she lost her parents, all six siblings and most of her extended family to the 1994 genocide against the Tutsi in Rwanda. She is the founder of the Genocide Survivors Foundation, and her story and work have been featured in The New York Times, Washington Post, Huffington Post, Jerusalem Post, Al Jazeera America, UN Africa Renewal Magazine, Newsday, Fast Company, People, Teen Vogue, NPR, Voice of America, CNN, PBS, NBC, ABC, MTV, and other media outlets worldwide.

Workshop participants will receive training in the USC Shoah Foundation's iWitness program, which offers 1500 video testimonies, multimedia resources, and digital resources. Discussions also will aid faculty and staff in identifying practical ways of incorporating the workshop's topics into their work with students.
