Giant Read at Rochester City Schools

The MCC Libraries are proud to announce their participation over the 2010-2011 academic year in a local grant opportunity involving the Rochester City School District. RIT librarians and RIT student athlete Kevin Rattigan were awarded a grant to host the READ: Hope in Action project, a collaborative effort to partner local colleges and Rochester City schools in order to promote reading. MCC is partnered with The Children’s School of Rochester (#15).

On Friday, November 5, approximately 50 MCC student athletes, as well as a few coaches and librarians, traveled en mass to The Children’s School of Rochester for the Giant Read, the first segment of the READ: Hope in Action project. MCC students read Dr. Seuss’ The Foot Book to a group of 45 enthusiastic first graders. The first graders were then given their own copies of the book to keep. In the spring, we will complete the second part of the project by hosting The Children’s School of Rochester’s sixth graders at MCC.

We wish to thank Athletic Director Skip Bailey, his staff of coaches, and the incredible student athletes who volunteered to make this event such a success.
