EDU Students Celebrate "Birthdays Around the World" at School 58

MCC Education students enrolled in the morning sections of EDU 150:  Performance and Presentation Skills for Educators embarked on an exciting journey with first graders at School 58: World of Inquiry. In small groups they compared and contrasted birthday celebrations in the United States with 16 countries around the world.  MCC students and first graders collaborated to co-author and illustrate books reflecting their research, meeting multiple New York State Standards.

The project culminated in a celebration of literacy and diversity at our “Birthdays Around the World” event.  First grade students and MCC students brought their books to life through performances of their stories for students in the school, their families, and the community.

The World of Inquiry students and MCC students then became true authors as their books were printed and donated to local child care centers and community organizations.  The printing of the books was made possible by generous donations from Tucker Printers, Over the Rainbow Kids Place, MCC students and families, and MCC’s Print Shop.

Thank you to all who were a part of this project for promoting literacy and diversity in the lives of children in our community and supporting the growth of future teachers.
