Pedagogy 201 for Distance Learning: Enhancing Interactivity - STARLINK Satellite Seminar

MCC will host the STARLINK Satellite Seminar entitled, "Pedagogy 201 for Distance Learning: Enhancing Interactivity," scheduled for Thursday, September 29 from 2:30-4:00 p.m. in the Board Lounge.  Join moderator Dr. Peter Shea, co-author of the books “The Successful Distance Learning Student”, “Learning Together Online”, and “Learner Centered Theory and Practice in Distance Education," as he delves deeper into the pedagogical influences behind enhancing interaction in online courses. Peter is joined by colleagues and fellow panelists, Dr. Rena Pallof and Dr. Keith Pratt, co-authors of “Building Learning Communities in Cyberspace: Effective Strategies for the Online Classroom”, “The Virtual Student" and “Collaborating Online: Learning Together in Community”, and Dr. Nada Dabbagh, co-author of “Online Learning: Concepts, Strategies, and Application.”  The panel will discuss how pedagogical values and best practices are key to improved interaction and thriving engagement in e-learning environments. You will hear perspectives and practical considerations for building a stronger online community and learn strategies to guide students and shape their ideas and discussion into a more positive online climate--one that reflects respect and openness while encouraging participation, collaboration and communication. The goals of the seminar are to provide a better sense of good pedagogy, to help you recognize online cues and enhance interaction while creating a more positive learning environment for both the student and the faculty.
