MCC's New Tool Addresses Growing Mismatch Between Job Openings, Job Seekers

Community colleges are increasingly at the center of the national dialogue about getting the unemployed retrained to be able to go back to work and putting students on the path to high-demand careers. The expectation of the community college’s workforce mission is increasingly to assist in correcting the mismatch in the skills of the labor supply. The reality within the current economy is that the skills of the workforce too often do not align with the needs of employers.

Current and future workers of all ages need better labor market information on which to base their educational and training decisions so that they will succeed in the new economy and help drive economic expansion.

MCC’s new Career Coach (www.monroecc.edu/go/careercoach)* is a simple, web-based career exploration tool that helps people make educated decisions about college and beyond by providing up-to-date, easy-to-understand local employment data.

They can learn about current job opportunities, estimated earnings and projected job openings in the Greater Rochester area and find the specific MCC educational programs that will get them started. Anyone—students, parents, counselors, current workers and employers—can access the data using this free career exploration tool accessible anytime and at any place.

Public workshops on using Career Coach are scheduled on the following dates. For more information, call Lomax Campbell at (585) 292-3058:
