Governor Paterson Directs Flags to be Flow at Half-Staff (10/14/08)


Governor David A. Paterson has directed that flags on state government buildings across New York be flown at half-staff on Tuesday, October 14, 2008 in honor of Kew Gardens, New York resident and New York Army National Guard Specialist Jason E. Von Zerneck, who died on October 2, 2008, in Qara Bagh Karez, Afghanistan.

Specialist Von Zerneck, a member of B Troop, 2nd Squadron, 101st Cavalry, died in a vehicular accident while supporting combat operations in support of Operation Enduring Freedom.

“On behalf of the people of New York, I wish to extend our condolences to the family, friends and fellow soldiers of Specialist Von Zerneck,” said Governor Paterson. “Specialist Von Zerneck’s loss is a tragic reminder of the dangers our servicemen and women face overseas. His sacrifice to our nation will be honored and valued forever.”

Governor Paterson has directed the flags on all State buildings to be flown at half-staff in honor and tribute to our State’s soldiers who are killed in action.
