International Education Week & Geography Awareness Week Opens with Fanfare!

I invite you to read the opening remarks offered by Assistant Professor Keite Leite, coordinator of the ESOL Program and co-chair of the Global Education and International Services Advisory Council, as we kicked off the week of events and celebration:

International Education Week Opening Ceremony

This week we celebrate International Education Week at MCC.  As you look around the Atrium today, you see MCC students from all over the globe waving flags from their own or neighboring countries.  They are here to remind us that we live, learn, and work in a global world.  The diversity they bring to MCC enrichens our campus.

MCC is BOTH domestically and globally diverse.  We invite you to participate in the events this week but ALSO to reach out to someone at MCC who is different from you for a conversation, maybe an international student in one of your classes, maybe someone who comes from a different part of Rochester than you do, because we are strengthened when we find common ground with those who are different from us.  As the executive director of NAFSA says, “isolation and division diminishes us...” We are our best selves when “we can freely exchange ideas, where the best thinking on our most difficult problems can be debated, where creative solutions can be sought, and where fear is driven out.” (Johnson, M., NAFSA Executive Director)

This week is a collaboration between the Office of Global Education and International Services and MCC’s Geography Program.
