Starfish News: Using the "Notes" Feature

For faculty who want to document information about a student’s academic performance without raising a flag, please use the “Notes” feature in Starfish.

Notes are for documentation and can be used for communication.

* A Note is added to the Student Folder in Starfish and is viewable by Success Coaches and School Specialists.

* Notes can be used for documentation of communication an instructor has with a student about their academic performance.

* Notes may be sent as a follow up to the student at the note writer’s discretion.

* Notes give a more holistic view of each student when and if a Success Coach or School Specialist needs to provide guidance to a student.

Examples of good use of Notes:

(Documentation) Mary has been more consistent with her attendance and made up her missing work.

(Documentation and Note emailed to student) Jan, you missed two classes this week. Please get in touch with me.

(Documentation and Note emailed to student) Tom, although you are doing well in my class, you are neglecting your weekly journal. Doing your weekly journal is important for your growth as a writer. Please complete your journal every week.
