Results of the New CDC Anti Smoking Commercials

The Center for Disease Control (CDC) launched anti-smoking commercials and ads on March 19, 2012.  These ads are Tips from former Smokers, showing real lives and bodies damaged by tobacco.  The campaign features stories of former smokers living with smoking related disabilities and diseases.  The ads focus on smoking related lung and throat cancer, heart attack, stroke and asthma.  They ads show former smokers’ scars from heart surgery and throat cancer, and children with asthma related to second hand smoke.

The CDC is reporting that calls to the 1-800-QUIT-NOW phone line has doubled in the 2 weeks after the campaign began. This is good news considering smoking remains the leading cause of preventable death and disease in the United States, killing more than 443,000 Americans each year.  If you are a smoker or know a smoker that would like information on quitting.  You may visit Health Services and speak to a nurse, check out these websites: "https://www.cdc.gov/Quitting/Tips", "https://www.smokefree.gov", or call 1-800-QUIT-NOW.

Let’s work together and be supportive of each other for a healthier MCC community!
