Possible Expansion of Employee Resource Groups (ERGs)

The office of Inclusion, Diversity, Equity and Accountability (IDEA) supports several Employee Resource (affinity)Groups (ERGs) that actively engage the campus and Rochester-area communities. Each ERG has a direct link to a liaison on the President's Cabinet. While the ERG model is based on common background or interest, in the spirit of inclusivity, any employee can join any ERG. Students are not eligible to become members of ERGs; however, there may be opportunities for student organizations and ERGs to collaborate on or co-sponsor programming.

In speaking with employees who have expressed an interest in additional ERGs, and given the increased violence against targeted populations of individuals and communities, I am hosting two zoom session for individuals interested in ERG's for the following groups: Asian American and Pacific Islanders (AAPI) or Lesbian, Gay, Bi-Sexual, Trans-Gender, Queer and/or Questioning, Intersex, Asexual and/or ALLY (LGBTQIA). The purpose for these sessions are to : 1) gauge employee interest; 2) create a safe and welcoming environment for individuals who identify as part of these groups; and 3) to increase learning, tolerance and understanding throughout the campus and surrounding community.

To provide the safest environment possible for these discussions, please email diversity@monroecc.edu using your MCC email address.  Once received, the link to the zoom session will be sent to you directly.  The dates and time for the zoom meeting will be as follows:

  • Thursday, June 10, 2021 from 12:30-1:45 PM (AAPI)
  • Friday, June 11, 2021 from Noon-1 PM (LGBTQIA)

ERGs are employee-led interest groups that aim to raise awareness of issues facing people of a specific demographic, race, religion, or sexual identity. These groups often advocate for a better, more inclusive workplace and socially responsible institutional practices. If you have an interest in discussing these or other possible ERG's, please feel free to contact me via email at cgantt@monroecc.edu.
