News from the MCC Board of Trustees Meeting


The MCC Board of Trustees held its meeting in the Gleason Hall of Science and Technology on Monday, March 14. The change in location provided an opportunity to highlight the renovation occurring in this building.

The board took the following actions at yesterday’s meeting:

1.      Approved the Consent Calendar, containing past meeting minutes, operating expenses, personnel appointments, compensation and promotions.

2.      Accepted the interim financial reports as of December 31, 2010 and January 31, 2011.

3.      Authorized the purchase of items over $20,000 for the months of December 2010 and January 2011.

4.      Authorized a transfer of funds between accounts in Student Services.

5.      Approved an A.S. degree in Sustainability, subject to approval by the State University of New York.

6.      Approved the promotion of associate professors, assistant professors and instructors, effective September 1, 2011. (See related Tribune announcement.)

7.      Approved the reappointment of non-contract, administrative, faculty and technical assistants/advisors as listed at the ranks and titles indicated for the academic year beginning September 1, 2011 and ending June 30, 2012, for 10-month personnel or August 31, 2012 for 12-month personnel.

8.      Approved the retirement of Kathleen Affleck, School to College Alliances, effective March 30, 2011 in accordance with Article 27 of the contractual agreement between Monroe Community College and the Faculty Association.

9.      Approved the early retirement incentive for Joan Shedd, Financial Aid, in accordance with Article 50 of the contractual agreement between Monroe Community College and the Faculty Association.

10.  Approved the appointment of Dr. Michael McDonough as Provost/Vice President, Academic Services, to begin April 1, 2011 and continue through August 31, 2012. (See related Tribune announcement.)

11.  Passed a resolution  requesting that Governor Cuomo and the members of the New York State Legislature maintain community college funding at its current level.

12.  Conducted an executive session pursuant to Public Officers Law Section 105, subsections c and h.

As points of information, the Board heard a presentation from Diane Shoger, executive director of the MCC Foundation, on the Foundation’s strategic plan, and received a proposed 2011-12 Tuition and Fees Schedule, which will be considered at the April 11 board meeting.
