E-book Continues to Attract Media's Attention

Channel 8 aired a report on MCC's new e-book, “Measuring Middle-Skills Occupational Gaps Within the Finger Lakes Regional Economy" during its Wednesday (3/18) news broadcast. President Kress and MCC student NIkita Pogorelov, who is majoring in information technology, were interviewed.

Additionally, a column in the Democrat and Chronicle's Sunday (3/22) issue included data in the e-book for the basis of its argument on bridging the middle-skills gap. https://www.democratandchronicle.com/story/money/business/2015/03/20/rochester-stem-jobs-gap-todd-clausen/25097349/

The 188-page e-book quantifies current and projected labor shortages and surpluses across five key workforce clusters within the Finger Lakes region using various labor market and workforce intelligence sources and integrating traditional and real-time labor market data.

Replete with videos, charts and graphs, the e-book also introduces readers to careers available in each industry, identifies skills in greatest demand for 23 occupational groups, provides a wage curve and estimates the percentage of workers approaching retirement age within 10 years for each occupational group.

The e-book is a continuation of MCC’s efforts since 2012 to use data to increase the community’s awareness of the mismatch between labor market demand and supply and to address the skills gap facing our region.
