Students Support “Darfur Now” Showing at the Little Theatre

Student leaders of the Holocaust Genocide Studies Project have partnered with the Little Theatre to educate people about the ongoing genocide and suffering of the people in Darfur, Sudan. The students will host an information table and sell “Remember a Life by Saving a Life” bracelets, Friday, Nov. 30– Wednesday, December 5, during showings of “Darfur Now” at the Little Theatre.

Professor Charlie Clarke (Psychology) and attorney J.B. Manin, Legal Aid Society of New York (former MCC instructor) will lead a discussion following the film on Monday, Dec. 3.

MCC students faculty and staff are encouraged to support this important effort.

Produced by Ted Braun, the film is “a call to action” to end the crisis in Darfur. It captures the first-hand experiences of six people, including actor Don Cheadle (“Hotel Rwanda”) as they respond to the tragedy. The film is rated PG and runs 99 minutes.

Proceeds from the sale of bracelets will support Water for Sudan, a humanitarian organization founded by MCC alumnus Salva Dut, to build fresh water wells in Southern Sudan. The students' goal is to raise $5,000 by June 30, 2008 to cover the cost of a new well.
