Engineering Students Sweep National Competition

MCC Engineering Science Students won first, second, and third places at the ASEE Two-Year College Division Engineering Design Competition held in Vancouver, British Columbia on Monday, June 24, 2011.  MCC jumped out to an early lead in the Exhibition Session then extended their lead during the Robot Testing portion of the competition.  This is the third straight year that MCC has earned the ASEE Engineering Design Championship and the fifth time in the past seven years.

The competition required students to design and build autonomous robots that were capable of collecting 3” high red dowels representing dead trees, while leaving the corresponding green dowels (“live trees”) untouched.  Prior to each run the locations of the dowels were randomized.  Photos, videos, and the final score sheet can be viewed by visiting the Engineering Leadership Council’s blog at:

The team would like to extend a special thank you to Betty Stewart, Director of Student Life and Leadership Development, for her guidance, encouragement, and assistance over the past year.  The team is also grateful for the continued support of Dr. Susan Salvador, Vice President of Student Services, who has been instrumental in helping MCC win five national ASEE Design Championships.  The connection between academics and the co-curricular program that Ms. Stewart and Dr. Salvador foster has provided MCC engineering science students with invaluable educational opportunities that have propelled them to the top ranking in the nation.
