Passing of Associate Professor Emeritus Pete Patall

I am sad to inform the college community that Associate Professor Emeritus Pete Patall died early Saturday, April 19, 2013. Pete, who began his MCC career in the fall of 1971 as a psychology instructor, retired in 2008 after 37 years teaching at the college.

Pete was a pioneer of how psychology was taught at MCC. In the early 1970s, he set up the first learning center for psychology students on the fourth floor of the library. He later developed interactive software that could be used in class and created an authoring system that produced programmed instruction with graphic and full-motion video capabilities. In addition, he was a leading member of the team that designed and implemented a computer-based testing system for the Psychology Department.

Promoted to assistant professor ten years after arriving here, Pete became an associate professor eight years later. During his MCC tenure, he served on every major college committee and was an active community volunteer who was always happy to share his talents as a pianist and singer.

There are no traditional calling hours or funeral planned. Condolences may be sent in care of Pete’s wife to:
