Updates from MCC APPLIED- Survey results and Demos for a new Portal Product

As you may recall, MCC APPLIED-Title III SIP grant began in October 2019 with a focus on improving student success through integrating technology and increasing supports to students through technology-based solutions. One of the focuses of this grant was to explore potential portal options to replace myMCC, which was created in-house on the platform of an outdated version of Blackboard. The newest Blackboard instance does not support an opportunity to have a similar portal, so funding was resourced through Title III funds to purchase and maintain a new college wide portal product.

In early June MCC Applied/Title III distributed a survey to the full MCC community concerning myMCC. Thank you to the 125 staff and students that responded to the survey (survey results attached). In addition to the survey, we also conducted a focus group with students to get their feedback and opinions of our current system. The results of the survey and feedback session were in alignment with one another.

A key take-away from the survey showed it can be difficulty finding needed information within myMCC. It can take many clicks to get what's needed and there can be broken links and outdated information. Across the board we saw a desire for improved navigation and search features. Additionally, people indicated a desire to be able to customize their home page to display the information that they use more frequently. Finally, there is a desire to have more of MCC’s technology offerings contained in one single application to enhance people’s awareness and use of these tools.

A cross divisional team lead by Title III-MCC APPLIED distributed an RFP based on needs assessments created from the survey, focus groups, and the following student focused Title III workgroups: Financial Plan, Caree Plan, Applied Learning, and Transfer Finder/Student Educational Plan.

After reviewing submitted proposals, four vendors were selected by the RFP review committee to present demonstrations to the college community. We strongly encourage you to take the time and attend these sessions- listed below.

Watch the Tribune for individual zoom webinar links, all sessions will be recorded.
