MCC Doorway to Success Student Opens New Business in Rochester

On Friday, October 22, 2010, George Green, Jr, Monroe Community College, Men of Excellence student, received a warm welcome and reception by Carlos Carballada, Commissioner, and Thaddeus Schofield, Economic Development and Project Manager of the City of Rochester Neighborhood Business Development. George “cut the ribbon” at his Grand Opening of Juniors Barbershop & Unisex Salon at 601West Main Street in the City of Rochester. Milladge Griffin, who is the advisor in the Brighton Doorway to Success Program, was also in attendance for this celebration. It was particularly heartfelt for Mr. Griffin since his father was one of the first African Americans to have a barbershop on Jefferson Avenue.

Mr. Carballada and Mr. Schofield were extremely excited for George to have opened Juniors Barbershop in the business community that is being revived. The City is committed to helping small businesses grow and thrive. As Rochester’s economic infrastructure improves, the vision is to encourage prospective business owners to consider the City as a viable and innovative option to develop their businesses.

George is a native of Rochester and is father of three boys and three girls. He is a full-time student at MCC pursing an Associate’s Degree in Business Administration. His mother Linda and sister Felicia Green were in attendance, as well as his long time friend and mentor, Johnny Scott and the stylist who will be working in his shop, Assunta Wilson.

Congratulations, George, for being such a great role model.
