Spectrum News Covers Deliberative Dialogue

Last week, Spectrum News 1 attended the MCC-hosted community forum "A Deliberative Dialogue on the War in Ukraine: How Should the United States Respond?" and interviewed Dr. Joe Scanlon, assistant professor of political science.

MCC has hosted annual Deliberative Dialogues since 2018 in encouraging greater civility in discussions on daunting problems that involve examining the costs and consequences of possible solutions and what we, as a society, would or would not accept as a solution.

“People usually have pretty divergent opinions, pretty divergent ideas about these type of issues, and this is an opportunity for them to get in the same place and talk but also listen to one another,” Dr. Scanlon said during the interview.

Moderated by a mix of students and faculty, the forum is free and open to the public. The March 31 forum was organized by The Democracy Commitment at MCC and the office of Global Education and International Services.
