President's Wednesday Message

Today, we welcome our new Provost and Vice President for Academic Services, Dr. Andrea Wade, and new Executive Dean for the Damon City Campus, Dr. Joel Frater. Together, they bring a depth of experience that will benefit MCC.

Both Dr. Wade and Dr. Frater have long careers within SUNY. Given the uniqueness of our state system—and how it intersects with both the State Education Department and Middle States Commission on Higher Education—this is an incredible plus for MCC. They have strong relationships with all three organizations that will follow them to our College.

Dr. Wade’s background in the health sciences gives her the perfect skill set to lead MCC during significant transitions in health education programs and an increasing emphasis on STEM programs. Additionally, her grounding in liberal arts education provides the foundation needed to support these essential disciplines. As one of the members in the inaugural Open SUNY cohort, Dr. Wade also brings experience in and a vision for online learning and educational technologies. I have lost count of the number of times someone in the state has praised MCC for hiring Dr. Wade, suggesting the strength of her reputation among her community college and SUNY colleagues.

Dr. Frater has deep ties to the Rochester community that will support our current downtown campus and facilitate the transition to our new campus in 2017. His commitment to diversity is reflected in his leadership role on SUNY’s Diversity Council, and his academic reputation and experience with assessment have made him a regular member of accreditation committees. Dr. Frater also holds a leadership role among the American Council on Education Fellows alumni, which speaks to his status among his peers.

I hope you will make some time in the next few weeks to visit with both Andrea Wade and Joel Frater and welcome them to our College. They look forward to learning more about MCC and how they can serve our mission and our community—and getting to know their inspiring new colleagues. Please feel free to add your own words of welcome here.
