MCC’s Visiting Scholar Series Presents Poet Laureate Billy Collins

WHAT: The noon event will feature a conversation/interview on writing craft between Tony Leuzzi, MCC associate professor, English, and U.S. Poet Laureate Billy Collins. A book signing will immediately follow.

At 7 p.m. that evening, Collins will give a reading of his latest work and answer questions. Again, a book-signing will immediately follow.

DETAILS:
Billy Collins is an American phenomenon. No poet since Robert Frost has managed to combine high critical acclaim with such broad popular appeal. Collins, who has authored nine collections of poetry and edited two modern poetry anthologies, was appointed US Poet Laureate (2001-03) in 2001. In 2004, he was selected as the inaugural recipient of the Poetry Foundation’s Mark Twain Award for Humor in Poetry. He is a distinguished professor of English at Lehman College of the City of New York and a senior distinguished fellow of the Winter Park Institute at Rollins College.
