Interested in working with and learning from community-based organizations and healthcare providers?

If you are enrolled in a Health-Related or Human Services program, consider applying to be a Rural AHEC (Area Health Education Center) Scholar. This is an amazing opportunity to gain training in cultural competency, social determinants to health, practice transformation, behavioral health integration, and interprofessional care coordination. This will look great on your resume.

During two consecutive summers, you will participate in a three-week community-based training experience (in-person or remotely).  During the academic year, there are several online modules you will complete.  The summer opportunities are in medically disadvantaged settings in Wyoming County. If you choose to do in-person, free housing may be available for the three-week session. There is also a minimum $300 stipend for each summer session. Fifteen students will be accepted.

To be eligible, you must:

  • Be enrolled in a Health-Related (Health Studies or any competitive-health program at MCC) or Human Services program
  • Have at least two consecutive years of education remaining (if you are completing your program at end of fall 2022 you may still be eligible). You can also be completing an MCC degree sooner if you are continuing directly on in a health or human services program at another institution.
  • Be able to commit to three full-time weeks during this summer and next summer. This year the dates are July 12-30th. Next year, July 11-29th, 2022.
  • Be interested in improving healthcare quality for all individuals.
